Jazz Group

Frank Glover
Jazz sax man. Way cool. For a guaranteed excellent evening, you should catch this Indy gem at the Jazz Kitchen (5377 N. College Ave. 253-4900) on Monday nights with Claude Sifferlen on piano. Don't miss this show! Claude and Frank should be household names all over the planet as far as I'm concerned.

Blues Band

Magic Lantern Blues Band
Smokin'! I first saw these guys at Zanies Too and was blown away by the red hot Chicago harp playing of Allen Stratyner. On vocals is Jeffrey Lee singing like a Delta thunderstorm at the break of day. On slide guitar is Vince Mullin who plays like Elmore James time warped into the 21st century. Mike Strauss of the legendary Art Adams rock-a billy band is on Fender bass and look out! That would be Greg Cole on drums.

Bar North Side: Mug Shots

Mug Shots (6525 N. College Ave. 251-6985)
Motorcycles and plenty of seating outside make this Broad Ripple hangout a favorite from Spring 'till Autumn. Live music on the weekends with a cover charge of $3.00 to $5.00....plenty of parking for cars and Harley's.
UPDATE! I Just got word that Mug Shots is now closed so don't bother with it!

Bar South Side: The Gaslight Inn

The Gaslight Inn (2280 S. Meridian St. 782-1250)
Rumored to be one of John Dillingers' hangouts, and just a couple of miles south of downtown, the Gaslight is one of Indy's best places to see live music because of the intimate atmosphere in the bar ( and they don't charge cover). The room seats about 45 or 50 so the service is good and the wait staff has always been friendy. It's a cool old two story house and if you believe in ghosts you might want to watch some of the unexplained happenings at the bar late at night.

Walking Downtown

The Canal Downtown
Hands down, best place for a walk in Indy must be The Canal Walk with it's great views of the city and minutes from everything downtown.

Hamburger: The Red Key

The Red Key (5170 N. College Ave. 283-4601)
Served on a paper plate no less, this is the best hamburger in town. Be sure to order the potato salad too mmm-good stuff potato fans. Russ Settle told me the hamburgers taste so good because the grill is so old. Ok.
The place is adorned with a bunch of old model airplanes hanging from the ceiling and there's some pretty cool original paintings on the walls that portray some European village.
WARNING: If you don't act like a gentleman or lady, you will be asked to leave. Hang your coat or jacket up where provided ( not the back of your chair) and be nice.
